SAFETY FIRST!!!! NO MATTER WHAT!

Well, here I sit after another shift at work, and I've got a few scratches on my torso, and cuts on both my thumbs. YET it's not my fault for any of them. First before I go any further, I'm going to say I really enjoy this job and have no intentions of quitting. As well as an explanation leading up to today so you will understand what I'm talking about. So far, every shift I've worked has been on the paint line, which is alot of fun, and easy... or so I think anyways. The parts that we have to put on and take off the line are not hard or dangerous... that is until today. I've basically worked with the same people on this, and one of them is one of the 18 year olds that I mentioned last week. This kid is dumber than dumb. Now onto the present. The part for today is "moving blades" which are very, very, VERY(get the point?) sharp on both sides. It's not hard taking them on or off, you just have to be careful. It started out easy today, but within 30 minutes of starting, the kid started saying he was bored. HOW CAN YOU BE BORED WHEN YOU ARE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO PUT PARTS ON A MOVING OBJECT? So, he basically stopped moving, so the shift manager, Joe, put him in charge of making sure they weren't interlocked when they came out of the washing machine, which means sitting there not looking. He actually enjoyed that. When the entire line was full and we started to unload, he joined in abit later after his other "job' was finished. Now, you should know that Joe told us that the most we should take off at one time is 2, and then put them into other hand and take 2 more, for the first several days we do it then we can try 3. This is for safety reasons. Well, the kid comes up and decides who knows what, maybe trying to impress us as we are all older and know what we are doing and how to be safe, or he was being a typical 18 year old where he doesn't listen and his way is right. Who knows. Well, he decideds he's going to take all 6 off at once. Well, he did it, but had the rack that they hang out swinging wildly. Standing on the other side of the same rack was Glenn, and it swung and missed his face by less than 2 inches, AND it had blades on that side still. Obviously we weren't impressed and told him to NEVER do that again. Does he listen? Take a guess. Less than 5 minutes later, he tries it again, and it barely misses me in the face. So, we told him that he really shouldn't because safety is the most important thing. Well, he went farther down to work, and we watched him. Well, half hour later, we are still taking them off (it's an hour and a half to load and the same to unload), and I was taking 2 off the rack, and he decides lets help them out and takes the other 4 off. Well, can you guess what happens next? The rack swung, and because I was taking 2 of them off and when it swung, I lost my grip on them and that put one of the cuts in my thumb. Of course, it will swing back, and they flew off and hit me. I didn't think they did anything, but at lunch I took a look and there were scratches left there from them. So, we told Joe and he said he'd watch him cause if he doesn't stop then he's finished at Camalor because he's not being safe. He only had a few moments to watch and he did everything right because he was being watched. So, he had been told sternly more times than I can count by me, Glenn who's 38, Peter who's 47, and Joe the manager. So, during lunch while Glenn was cooking his lunch, he heard him crying in the lunch room. Well, after lunch, he decides to take 6 off again, so he starts too. But we catch him, Glenn puts his finger on the rack to stop it from moving, I put my hand over the blades so he couldn't grab them and Peter was ready to grab his hands if he went for it. And Joe was watching, we told him that if we EVER catch him doing that again we will report him. So, he got upset and pushed Peter's and my hands away, and as you might recall, yet once again my hand was near blades, so it hit them and I got 4 or 5 cuts on my other thumb. Joe wasn't pleased, so he was to meet him after work, so I don't know what's going to happen. As Glenn said to me after he heard the crying, when safety is involved, if it takes 4 people to yell at you a hundred times before you understand, than it doesn't matter, because we are not willing to get hurt because of someone's stupidity. When he wasn't on the line, we were having great times, but as soon as he came on, we all were in rotten moods cause we had to watch him and throw him looks when he was about to do something stupid. Well, that's all for now.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles,

This is Captain Ooster signing off.
